At the M.D. of Minburn Foundation we provide affordable supportive housing for low to moderate income seniors, and we are dedicated to creating a warm, vibrant, and engaging environment for seniors ages 65+ to live their golden years with dignity, respect, and joy. We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Activity Coordinator to plan, coordinate, be creative, be highly motivated, and oversee daily activities and programs for our residents at our site of the Homestead Senior Citizens’ Lodge.

As the Activity Coordinator, you will play a key role in enhancing our residents' quality of life by designing and implementing a variety of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities. Your role will ensure that our residents remain engaged, active, and connected to their community.


Key Responsibilities/Duties:

·         Reporting to the Site Manager.

·         Plan, organize, and lead a variety of activities for seniors, including arts and crafts, music, exercise programs, games, karaoke, and outings.

·         Assess residents' individual preferences and needs to tailor activities that support their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

·         Must meet, develop and implement a variety of programs for the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, vocational and cultural needs, as well as the personal interests of residents.

·         Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where all residents feel comfortable and valued.

·         Coordinate with other team members, family members, and healthcare professionals to ensure that activities meet the needs and preferences of residents.

·         Maintain records of activities and participation to report on the effectiveness of programs.

·         Ensure safety compliance and comfort of all participants during activities.

·         Create a varied and balanced monthly residents’ calendar which meets the needs and interest to residents.

·         Produce monthly newsletter which includes regular department messages, facility happenings and events, articles of interest, stimulating games, etc.

·         Produce activity office forms, flyers, advertising, procedures.

·         Ability to post photos/events on social media/website.

·         Welcome and orientate new residents/volunteers to the site and introduce them to others.

·         Manage facility decor, including dining room table centerpieces and other.

·         Manage department aides and volunteers, including recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of same.

·         Organize and chair (or assist chair) with monthly/quarterly residents’ meetings and facilitate the development of a Residents’ Council.

·         Manage departmental budget including managing supplies and operation of the Canteen Shop.

·         Organize and participate in fundraising activities to benefit the residents’ activity program.  

·         Must be able to work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.

·         Maintains a current knowledge and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety and other legislation and ensures departmental/standards compliance.

·         Physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties in the working environment.


Qualifications:

·         Previous experience in a senior living or healthcare setting, preferably in an activity coordination role is considered an asset.

·         Strong communication skills and a passion for working with seniors.

·         Ability to develop, organize, and lead a variety of activities that promote wellness and engagement.

·         Creative, energetic, and positive attitude.

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·         Seniors Housing Program – Activity Coordinator Certificate (in progress enrolled as a student) is an asset.

·         General/Basic Office / Administrative / Secretarial Certificate / typing skills, basic accounting skills, and computer literate is an asset.

·         First Aid/CPR/AED valid certification is an asset.

·         Food Safe valid certification is an asset.

·         Experience using Canva online is an asset.

·         Microsoft Word certification is an asset and computer technical skills.

·         Occupational Health and Safety Committees and Representatives certification an asset.

·         Ability to provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check required upon hire.

·         Strong English language and communication skills, both written and oral required.

·         Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
